Best Workouts For A Flat Stomach

Looking great in the summer means full-body workouts with extra focus on abdominal muscles. A flat stomach is one of the keys to looking good at the beach or in summer clothing. Working on abs and core muscles can help burn fat from your belly. While great abs start in the kitchen to help remove the fat, you also need a good exercise program for toning.

Start with an easy exercise you can do anywhere.

Push-ups are great for building core muscles, but you can focus more on core muscles rather than the upper body with a plank. Lay face down on the floor. Your arms should be bent at the elbow with your forearms on the floor. Lift your body so the weight is on the forearm. Hold your body so it forms a straight line from your head to your feet. Hold in place for a minute.

You don’t need a bicycle to do bicycles.

Doing bicycles builds your abs and flattens your stomach. Lay on your back with your hands behind your head and your fingers interwoven to cup your head. Lift your head when you start the exercise, letting your interwoven fingers provide neck support. Your legs are straight and lifted slightly off the floor. Bring one knee toward your chest as you bend your leg, keeping the other leg straight with your toes pointed. Touch the opposite elbow to the knee, then lower the leg as you raise the other and touch the opposite elbow to it. Continue to alternate throughout.

Holding your body in a V is a yoga pose.

The Navasana is another simple exercise without much movement, but looks are deceiving. Sit with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lean back slightly, straightening your arms in front of you so the palms of your hands are beside your knees as you lift your feet from the floor. Bend your knees at a 90-degree angle. Your body should form a V. If able, straighten your legs with your toes pointing toward the ceiling. Keep your abs tight and your stomach flat as you attempt to hold the position for a minute. Work toward holding it longer as you get stronger.

  • Combine your exercises with circuit training or create a HIIT—high intensity interval training—workout. A HIIT workout alternates any exercise between high intensity and recovery. It burns fat fast so your abs will show.
  • Add the bridge to your workout as a tummy tamer. Lay on your back with your knees bent and lift your body so it forms a straight angle from your knees to your head. Hold the position as long as possible.
  • Have fun with the kids, burn calories, and tighten your abs by conquering the hula hoop. Other fun ways involve the kids using the balance ball and jump rope.
  • Our live Get Ripped OnDemand programs can help you get your tummy flat quickly. It will help all body parts look great. If you start today, you’ll be ready for summer in no time.
