Love For Running

While I produce many videos that show tough workouts that contain strength building, flexibility and endurance training that I often use in a gym, that doesn’t mean you can’t supplement with a type of exercise you truly enjoy. Whether you have a love for running or enjoy dancing, include it as part of your workout program. There’s no need to stop what you love, just add to it to round it out and make it more effective.

You need all types of workouts.

You have four ways to measure fitness. How much strength, endurance, flexibility and balance you have rounds out your total fitness. While running is one method to improve your endurance, it’s not effective for flexibility and definitely does nothing for upper body strength. To achieve those ends, you have to have specific exercises that do that. If you loved weight lifting, but failed to do other types of workouts, you’d be setting yourself up for injury, since you wouldn’t have the flexibility required and maybe not even the endurance. A well-rounded exercise program is important.

Sure running burns calories, but those calories come from both muscle and fat tissue.

One of the benefits of running is that it burns tons of calories. One of the problems is that the body doesn’t discriminate where those calories come from. It can burn both muscle and fat tissue to get them. Ultimately, that can slow your progress for weight loss. Muscle tissue requires more calories to maintain than fat tissue does, so the more you have, the more calories you burn 24/7. That means it boosts your metabolism. It’s also why you should include strength training in your workout, which also burns high amounts of calories, while building muscle tissue at the same time.
